Since we are going for the ultimate realism in our simulators, what better way to achieve that goal than using an actual aircraft as a starting point. A 747-400 cockpit is about 1200 LBS and creates the ultimate frame to start the process. This is a video of the work that goes into removing the nose section of a retired Lufthansa 747-400. The work takes about 5 days and it includes the removal of the interior panels and trim for a safer process. Follow us for more videos as the projects progress.
